A grant from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety has allowed the Desha County Sheriff’s Department to purchase in-car computers and their operating systems.

According to the McGehee-Dermott Times News, the computers will allow deputies to access the Arkansas and National Crime Information Centers, run vehicle license plate numbers and type incident and accident reports while in their vehicles.

The system will also allow deputies to submit citations and warrants electronically, eliminating handwritten documents, identify subjects who have no photo ID, and communicate from car to car.

“Most agencies across the state have had this technology for years,” Sheriff Mitch Grant was quoted as saying. “We are glad to be able to move our Sheriff’s Office forward, giving our Deputies another tool to be efficient and effective in the performance of their duties to the good people of Desha County.”
