Desha County Sheriff’s Office Holds Award and Promotion Ceremony

The Desha County Sheriff’s Office held an award and promotion ceremony on Friday, October 10, with Sheriff Mitch Grant presenting honors to several deputies for their service, bravery, and leadership.

Sergeant Roland Brown, a 28-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office with 33 total years of service to Desha County, received an Official Commendation for his bravery during a high-risk pursuit on August 31, 2025. Sgt. Brown placed himself in harm’s way to stop a fleeing felon and successfully brought a multi-agency vehicle chase to an end before innocent motorists were injured.

“Sgt. Brown is a leader in our office, and I applaud both his bravery and over 30 years of loyal and dedicated service to the good people of Desha County,” said Sheriff Grant.

Deputy Wayn’a Green was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Cpl. Green, a four-year law enforcement veteran, joined the Sheriff’s Office on January 1, 2023, and serves in the Patrol Division.

“Cpl. Green has been with us since the beginning,” Sheriff Grant said. “I’ve watched him grow and become a leader in our office. He never complains, comes to work every day with a positive attitude, and has helped change the culture of law enforcement in our county — reducing crime and providing quality service to our people.”

Investigator Alan Hernandez was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Hernandez, a five-year law enforcement veteran, joined the Sheriff’s Office in March 2023 and serves in the Criminal Investigation Division.

“Sgt. Hernandez works long hours and has a caring heart,” Sheriff Grant said. “He volunteers whenever needed and never complains. He’s dedicated to seeing every case through to conviction and a positive outcome for victims. He also has a heart for mentoring our youth and being a role model. Sgt. Hernandez truly cares about the peace and safety of our residents, and I appreciate his hard work.”

Sheriff Grant praised the entire Desha County Sheriff’s Office team for their commitment to the community.

“I’ve been blessed as sheriff to be surrounded by a hardworking team,” he said. “I’m proud of the deputies we honored today, and I’m proud of everyone at our office who works each day to make Desha County a safer place to live and raise a family. I hope our citizens feel safer now than they used to.”
