The Cleveland County School District’s millage increase has officially cleared the way for major upgrades at the Rison campus, after voters approved a 6-mill property tax increase in the Nov. 18 election.
The measure passed with 867 votes in favor and 404 against, securing funding for a new gymnasium for Rison students. The vote also positioned the district to receive additional state construction funding — support that was confirmed Monday morning.
District officials announced that the Arkansas Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation has awarded the district more than $2.7 million in partnership funding for the new gym project.
In addition, the state approved $138,714.14 for a new secure entrance at the elementary building, strengthening safety measures for younger students.
