The Cleveland County Quorum Court will meet on Monday to declare a vacancy in the office of County Judge.
According to the Cleveland County Herald, that meeting will take place at the Hall-Morgan Veteran’s Building at 6 p.m.
That action is necessary following the death of County Judge Jimmy Cummings on Aug. 28.
Current state law requires that the public must be told of the date and location of a meeting and that notice was published in the Herald Sept. 10 and Sept. 17. The law also requires that the Quorum Court must make the appointment of a new County Judge within 30 days after the resolution is approved, meaning the appointment must be made by Oct. 22.
A member of the Quorum Court told the newspaper he had not heard of anyone interested in the position nor heard any suggestions from fellow quorum court members.
