Cleveland County Judge Jimmy Cummings was killed Thursday in a single-vehicle accident near Kingsland, according to emergency services.
Cummings, who was serving his first term as county judge, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Republican Party of Arkansas released a statement expressing grief over the loss.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of County Judge Jimmy Cummings. We are grateful for his many contributions over the years to the Republican Party and for his dedicated leadership as an elected official. He worked tirelessly to represent the conservative values that strengthen Arkansas and improve the lives of the people of Cleveland County,” said Party Chairman Joseph K. Wood.
“His legacy of service and commitment to our shared principles will not be forgotten. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those who were touched by his leadership.”
No further details about the cause of the accident were immediately available.
Cummings’ death marks a significant loss for Cleveland County, where he had quickly become a well-regarded leader during his time in office.
