When the Pine Bluff City Council meets Tuesday, they will vote on a resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign a contract for trash collection in the city.

The meeting was moved to Tuesday because of the Labor Day Holiday.

Pine Bluff’s current contract with Waste Management expires at the end of October and after a consultant was hired to assist in the selection process, a review committee recommended that CARDS, Inc., be selected to provide waste management beginning Nov. 1.

According to information provided by the company, CARDS, Inc., has more than 50 municipal contracts with cities in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Kansas. The company said there will be a local call center to handle complaints during the transition period from Waste Management to CARDS, Inc., will have a designated representative in the Mayor’s Office.

The costs of once-a-week collections is listed at $19.39 for residential and commercial collections, as well as bulk and brush pick-up.

In other business, although ordinances establishing a one-cent sales and use tax for city residents and an election to decide the fate of that tax were tabled by the city’s Ways and Means Committee last week, they are on the agenda for Tuesday for consideration by the full council.

An ordinance rezoning property on the west side of Ohio Street in the 2900 block will be read for the second time Tuesday. A church in the area asked for the rezoning so that they can construction duplex housing units.

Resolutions setting millage rates for the Firemen’s and Policeman’s Pension and Relief Funds, the operation and maintenance of the Pine Bluff Public Library and the City’s General Fund are also on the agenda.
