Bradley County voters have overwhelmingly rejected two proposed sales tax measures that would have funded the construction and preparation of a new county jail, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election on November 18, 2025.

The primary measure — a proposed 1 percent sales and use tax designed to generate $19 million for the construction of a new jail — failed by a wide margin. A total of 696 voters opposed the tax, while 305 cast ballots in support.

A second measure, which would have levied a 0.625 percent sales and use tax to cover furnishing, painting, and other necessary preparations for the facility, was also defeated. 713 voters rejected the proposal, with 287 voting in favor.
