With the retirement of current Sheriff Jack Rodgers at the end of the year, Cleveland County will have a new sheriff beginning Jan. 1.
Following Tuesday night’s primary, that sheriff will be Brad Young. Young has no Democratic opponent and is not expected to face an Independent challenger in the general election.
Young spoke with Deltaplex News about his victory over Vance “Lee” Freeman and Keden Shrum in Tuesday night’s primary.
During the campaign, allegations surfaced claiming Young had negative documentation in his personnel file from his time with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Arkansas State Police.
A few weeks ago, Young publicly released his personnel records in an effort to show there were no disciplinary actions or adverse findings against him. He also addressed his decision to make those records public.
During the campaign, Young pledged to “hit the ground running” if elected. He said he plans to follow through on that promise by going to work as a deputy under current Sheriff Jack Rodgers to gain a closer, firsthand understanding of the department’s operations before taking office.
Young concluded his interview by thanking the voters of Cleveland County for their support.
