Arkansas State Police Investigating Inmate Death in Monroe County

The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is assisting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in a suspected homicide involving a 44-year-old inmate at the Monroe County Detention Center.

Terry Craig, of Clarendon, was booked into the jail at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, on charges of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons.

Later that day, jail staff discovered Craig injured in his cell. He was transported to Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart, where he was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.

His body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the official manner and cause of death. Authorities have identified other inmates as suspects, and the investigation remains ongoing.
