The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) issued another urgent warning on Thursday about a text message scam targeting Arkansas residents, marking the second such warning in June.
According to the DFA, the scam involves fraudulent text messages that appear to come from the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles. These messages falsely claim that the recipient has an overdue traffic ticket and face immediate consequences—including license suspension and potential legal action—if payment is not made promptly. The message then directs recipients to a link that does not belong to an official Arkansas.gov website.
DFA spokesperson Scott Hardin emphasized that the agency, including its Motor Vehicle Division, does not contact individuals via text about traffic citations.
“This is a revised version of the scam text that has been circulating for the past two months,” said Hardin. “It is another attempt to steal your financial information, suggesting the state government will cancel your vehicle registration and driving privileges if you don’t pay.”
Hardin urged Arkansans to be cautious and to avoid clicking on suspicious links. He reminded residents that any official communication from the DFA will never request personal or financial information through unsolicited text messages.
The DFA first alerted the public about these scams on June 6. As the fraudulent messages continue to evolve, the agency is working to inform the public and prevent financial exploitation. Anyone who receives one of these texts is advised to delete it immediately and avoid engaging with the link.
