Apex Clean Energy is proposing a large-scale solar farm in northern Jefferson County that will be combined with an ongoing project in neighboring Grant County to create a major source of renewable energy in the region.
Jackson Sheisal, Development Manager for Apex Clean Energy, spoke at Tuesday night’s Jefferson County Quorum Court meeting to share details about the project. He later told Deltaplex News that both Jefferson and Grant counties stand to receive over $700 million in tax benefits from the tax project.
Some quorum court members expressed concern after learning that the White Hall School District would receive the majority of the tax revenue, as the solar farm will be located within that district’s boundaries. Sheisal addressed those concerns during the meeting.
In addition, some justices discussed the possibility of directing a portion of the project’s tax revenue to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). Sheisal also responded to those suggestions.
The project is expected to create roughly 400 construction jobs during the building phase, with 8–10 permanent positions remaining once operations begin.
Construction is projected to begin in early 2028 and is expected to take about a year and a half to complete.
