Update:
On Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at approximately 9:37 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff’s
Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence located in the 1300 block of Caney Road near White Hall in regards to an armed disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive male who was subsequently pronounced deceased by Jefferson County Deputy Coroner April Davis.
The victim has been identified as Joe Stewart (40). The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Varlon Cummins, 61, was identified as the suspect charged with first-degree murder with a pending court appearance. The investigation is ongoing by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
