The Grant County Quorum Court during their meeting this week showed their support for an issue that will be on the ballot in November.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the Quorum Court approved a resolution dealing with ballot Issue 1, which would extend a half-cent statewide sales and use tax. The funds collected from that tax go to the state, cities and counties for road and bridge repair.

The tax is currently being collected but it due to sunset in July 2023. If voters pass the tax, the sunset clause would be eliminated.

Grant County Judge Randy Pruitt was quoted in the newspaper story as saying that if the tax fails, both Grant County and the City of Sheridan would suffer financially.

“It’s already something in place,” Pruitt said. “It’s not asking the people to vote in a new tax.”
