The Grant County Quorum Court voted recently to increase the amount justices of the peace are paid.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Grant County Judge Randy Pruitt said state law sets the range of compensation for quorum court members but gives each body the ability to set the pay within that range.

Pruitt said the amount the members of the Quorum Court are currently paid is well below that of counties of similar size. If the pay raise is approved, it would put them in the middle range of counties of similar size.

Previously, members were paid $200 to attend regular meetings and $100 to attend committee meeting. With the increase approved, they will now receive $300 for regular meetings and $150 for committee meetings.
