Grant County is considering purchasing the former First Baptist Church in downtown Sheridan, according to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper.

The paper quoted Grant County Judge Randy Pruitt as saying the county needs more space.

“We’re out of room,” he said. “The courthouse is too crowded. We often find ourselves utilizing the courtroom upstairs for meetings and other uses but when it’s in session, we’re just out of luck.”

The building served as the home for First Baptist Church until they moved to their current location and Pruitt said they are considering using COVID-19 money to make the purchase.

The newspaper reported that the price of the m17,000 square foot building is just under $100,000 and the Grant Cnty Quorum Court will consider the purchase at their next meeting.
