The Grant County Quorum Court has a vacancy and County Judge Randy Pruitt hopes it will be filled soon.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Pruitt officially notified Governor Sarah Huckaby Sanders of the vacancy in November after former JP Grant Westmoreland resigned.

Under state law, the Governor appoints a successor who lives in the district to serve the rest of Westmoreland’s term.

Pruitt told the newspaper he had recommended former Sheridan City Council member David Damron for the position. If he is appointed, Damron would serve the rest of Westmoreland’s term, which expires Dec. 31.

Marilyn DeMoss has filed for the position and is unopposed in the March primary.
