SeArk College has announced several new additions in recent months. One of those new additions has been transforming the Department of Public Services from a security role to a full time police department on campus.

One big step made to help make that adjustment was hiring former Pine Bluff Police Officer Richard Wegner as full-time Chief for the department.

Wegner spoke with Deltaplex News about his new role as Chief of the SeArk College Police Department.

While Wegner is the Chief of Police he is also in charge of fire and emergency medical services on campus.

Wegner said that the new department has mutual aid agreements with other local agencies that will assist them if needed.

One big piece of information Wegner wants to get out to the public is to make them aware that with moving from security officers to certified police officers the department has arrest powers that the former Department of Public Services did not have.

Wegner said that he currently has nine officers on staff, but he does expect that number to grow.

Wegner said that if any certified officers are interested in inquiring about potential positions on his department they can email him at [email protected] or by CLICKING HERE.
