Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services recorded a more than 11 percent drop in calls for August compared to July, according to their monthly report.

The report showed there were 505 total calls last month compared to 573 in July, a decrease of 68 total calls.

As was typical, emergency medical accounted for more than 50 percent of the total calls for both months with firefighters responding to 288 calls in August and 293 in July.

Structure fires increased from 4 in July to 7 last month, with one each in Wards 1 and 2, 3 in Ward 3 and 2 in Ward 4. Reported vehicle fires were cut in half from 12 to 6 while brush, grass, and rubbish fires declined from 36 in July to 14 in August.

Firefighters answered 13 alarm calls in August, 4 more than in July and another 53 were determined to be false alarms, 9 less than the 62 in July.

Another 100 calls were listed as other, 27 fewer than the 127 in July.
