Discussions about an event center in Monticello was on the agenda when the Monticello Advertising and Promotions Commission met last week.

According to the Advance Monticellonian newspaper, Ron Echols said a recent editorial in the newspaper revived interest in a possible event center and it had been eight years since the topic was first discussed. A proposed sales tax for that purpose was defeated, and according to the newspaper, that was the first time a proposed sales tax had failed.

He said the mayor and county judge have compiled a list of people who might be able to work on the idea, said members of the committee are planning to visit event centers in other parts of the state to get ideas on what might work in Monticello. A tour of the center in Bentonville is planned and the A&P committee approved $3,000 to cover travel expenses.
