Almost 60 percent of the calls Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services firefighters responded to I September were emergency medical calls, according to the department’s monthly report provide to the Pine Bluff City Council Monday night.

Firefighters responded to a total of 475 calls in September, the same number as in August, with 283 of them being emergency medical calls, and 10 more listed as responding to vehicle accidents with injuries.

There were 15 structure fires in September, eight more than in August. Of those 15, six were reported in Ward 4, four each in Wards 2 and 3, and one in Ward 1. Five of those structure fires were determined to be the result of arson, two others listed as accidental, and two where the cause of the fire was undetermined.

A total of 24 brush/grass/rubbish fires were reported, and five vehicle fires.

Firefighters responded to 49 fire alarms in September, 43 of them determined to be false alarms. Another 89 calls in September were listed as other.
