Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson said Monday that he and his staff are still assessing the damage that resulted from a powerful storm that hit the county Sunday night, causing numerous power outages and resulting in one fatality.

“There’s significant damage,” Robinson said from his home in Humphrey. “It could have been a lot worse and I’m thankful for that.”

He said a tree fell into an apartment complex in Humphrey where a number of elderly and disabled individuals live during the storm, resulting in a lot of damage but thankfully no injuries.

According to Entergy Arkansas’ website Monday morning, 22,204 customers were without electricity from  182 separate outages.

“We’ve got a lot of power lines down and trees across the road and my guys (road department) were out all night trying to clear some of the roadways,” Robinson said.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the fatality victim as Clayton M. Resor, 62, who died when a tree fell on his house in the 2700 block of Highway 365 at about 10 p.m. Sunday night.
