The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism has opened the period when community based not-for-profits may apply for grants. The grants, which could pay up to $5,000 will come from the Heritage Division.  Groups that create heritage related programs are eligible to apply. Officials say funds  may not be used for ongoing operating costs, staff salaries or brick and mortar infrastructure. Instead, the money is for programs created that would not otherwise occur and programs that foster cooperative efforts between organziations, businesses and government. The first deadline is April 12th and the second is October 11th. Application requirements can be found at www.arkansasheritage.com
