Pine Bluff police have arrested a suspect in the Aug. 2 shooting death of Theodis Morris.

Lt. David De Foor said Curtis Beavers, 34, was processed into the Jefferson County jail Wednesday afternoon and he is being held on probable cause of capital murder pending a court hearing and the filing of formal charges.

Morris, 47, was found lying in front of Apartment 7 at 1320 S. Maple St., after police responded to a report of a shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley, who listed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

De Foor said in a press release that it appeared that Morris had been shot in the parking lot and then ran a short distance before collapsing in front of an apartment on the south side of the building.

The death of Morris was the 11th murder in Pine Bluff so far this year. Through the first seven months of 2017, 16 murders had been reported and there were three more in August 2017.
