Arkansas lawmaker and civil rights leader John Walker died Monday at the age of 82.

Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs said Walker was pronounced dead at his home at 6:25 a.m. Hobbs said Walker is believed to have died from natural causes.

Walker, a Hope native, opened a general practice law firm in Little Rock in the 1960s. He focused on civil rights cases.

Walker, a Democrat, was first elected to the state House in 2010.
