A $5,000 bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly pointed a gun at another man Thursday.

District Judge Phillip Green set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Donald McAllister, 74, with aggravated assault. Green was filling in for Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Mike Merritt, Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said on Thursday at about lunch time, officers of the Arkansas Highway Patrol were traveling south on I-530 and exited on Olive Street where Walmart is located.

Hunter said McAllister was taken to the Detective Office where he agreed to give a statement.

McAllister was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court June 24. He said he would hire his own attorney.

Prosecutors will not seek charges of theft by receiving for the gun because of how many years ago it had been stolen and McAllister’s explanation of how he got it.
