A $50,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man previously convicted of a felony after he was arrested following a police chase Sunday.

Jefferson County Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Javonte Butler, 36, with felony fleeing and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

During a court hearing Wednesday, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said at 11:55 a.m., Officer Richard Carrino was eastbound on Harding Avenue when he saw a vehicle that had tape on the license plate covering the expiration.

Carson then read from an affidavit by Detective Dante Nicholson to explain the circumstances that led to the arrest.

Carson said Nicholson reviewed the camera footage of the pursuit and asked that the fleeing charge be added to the allegation.

Butler has prior convictions for burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Carson said. He was told to come back to court June 21.
