Jefferson County Sheriff Office – Death Investigation Update

On June 15, 2026 at approximately 2134 hours, a concerned citizen called in to 911 about a vehicle being on fire in the area of East Altheimer Rd. While Deputies were in route 911 received another call in the same area of an unresponsive individual on the side of the road.

Deputies, volunteer fire fighters, and Emergency Ambulance Services Inc (EASI) arrived on scene.  EASI began treating the individual who was later identified as 27-year-old Kyonte Shakur Woods. Woods had a wound to the head which Deputies believed to be a gunshot wound. Woods was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC). Woods died at JRMC.

Investigators have been able to determine that the vehicle that was on fire in the same area belonged to Woods. An autopsy was performed at the Arkansas State Crime Lab on June 16, 2026. The cause of death was determined to be a gun shot wound to the head.

The investigation into the death of Woods remains ongoing. As a result, no additional information is being released at this time.
