A 4-year-old boy has died after being found unresponsive in an apartment complex pool early Wednesday morning, according to the North Little Rock Police Department.
Officers responded around 5:53 a.m. to the 5700 block of Summertree Drive following a report of a missing child. Upon arrival, police learned the boy was autistic and non-verbal.
During a search of the area, officers located the child unresponsive in the apartment complex pool. Authorities said officers removed the child from the water and began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived.
The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives have opened a death investigation, and the child’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the official cause and manner of death.
The child’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
