A $50,000 secured bond was set for a Pine Bluff woman accused of trying to hit people with her car and leading the police on a highspeed chase through Rison.
Pine Bluff District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge 65-year-old Joyce Williams with Felony Fleeing and Aggravated Assault on a Law Officer and 2nd degree Criminal Mischief.
Reading from an affidavit, the prosecuting attorney said officers were dispatched to the Duck In and Go at 10501 Highway 63 on June 10 in reference to a woman reportedly chasing people with her vehicle and attempting to run them over.
Sgt. David arrived on scene and observed Williams walking toward her vehicle. He attempted to speak with her about the reported behavior, but she ignored him and drove away.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Williams fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Officers eventually managed to block her vehicle in a parking lot in Rison. When Sgt. David attempted to take her into custody, Williams fled once again.
Authorities then deployed spike strips in an effort to stop the vehicle, but Williams stopped just short of the strips and drove around them, striking a state trooper’s vehicle in the process. The pursuit ended when Williams’ vehicle went into a ditch, where deputies were able to successfully take her into custody.
Williams is ordered to return to court on August 3rd.
