A man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he attempted to bring drugs and other contraband into the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, detention center staff on April 27 observed former detainee Ashton Tripp, who is currently assigned to the Clean Team, place a package under a trash bin at the facility.
Officials said the area was immediately secured and investigators with the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division and the Tri-County Drug Task Force were notified.
When investigators arrived, they recovered and opened the package, which reportedly contained approximately 102 grams of suspected marijuana, 22 suspected Xanax pills, about 85 grams of tobacco and two sheets of paper coated with a white and blue crystalline substance.
During an interview, authorities said Tripp admitted to bringing the package to the detention center in a vehicle he had driven to the location. He also told investigators there was a firearm inside the vehicle.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and collected additional evidence from the vehicle.
Tripp was taken into custody and booked into the detention center on multiple charges, including five counts of furnishing prohibited articles, use of a communication device, delivery of a Schedule IV controlled substance, two counts of delivery of a Schedule VI controlled substance and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.
Sheriff’s officials said they will continue to aggressively pursue anyone attempting to introduce contraband into the facility.
“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate any attempt to introduce contraband into the W.C. ‘Dub’ Brassell Adult Detention Center,” the department said in a statement. “Anyone found bringing contraband into the facility, or assisting in doing so, will be subject to arrest and prosecution.”
