Two individuals were arrested following a traffic stop in Monticello on April 20 that led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, according to authorities.
Agents with the 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force assisted the Monticello Police Department during the stop, which stemmed from coordinated communication involving Drew County Sheriff Tim Nichols, DTF agents and Monticello officers.
During the stop, a search was conducted and investigators located approximately 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Alejandro Tijerina and Marie Riffe were both arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine (10-200 grams). Authorities also confirmed that Tijerina was wanted in Texas on a full extradition warrant related to dangerous drug charges.
Officials said law enforcement had been receiving information about both individuals prior to the stop.
Authorities credited the coordinated efforts between the 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force, Drew County Sheriff’s Office and Monticello Police Department for the arrests.
Officials said the collaboration helped remove illegal drugs from the streets and resulted in the capture of a suspect wanted out of state.
The investigation remains ongoing.
