Brookshire’s has confirmed it will not rebuild or reopen its White Hall location following significant damage caused by a winter ice storm earlier this year.
The company said the January storm led to structural failure at the store, ultimately requiring the building to be demolished. After evaluating its options, Brookshire’s determined that rebuilding at the site was not financially viable.
“For many years, Brookshire’s has been proud to serve the White Hall community,” the company said in a statement. “After thoughtful review and discussion, we have made the difficult decision not to rebuild or reopen the Brookshire’s White Hall store at this time.”
While the decision marks the end of the company’s presence in White Hall, city leaders say efforts are already underway to bring a new grocer to the area.
White Hall Mayor Noel Foster told Deltaplex News that discussions are ongoing with developers and other grocery operators, and that there is strong interest in the market.
“I am working with the developer who owns the property and other family regionally owned and operated grocers that have expressed interest in White Hall,” Foster said.
Foster added that the property owner is committed to rebuilding on the site, with plans centered around a larger grocery store at the same location.
Brookshire’s acknowledged the role its store played in the community and thanked customers for their support over the years. The company said it will continue serving area residents through nearby locations, including Super 1 Foods in Pine Bluff and Spring Market in Redfield.
