Gasoline prices in Arkansas climbed for a second consecutive week, continuing an upward trend that has pushed costs significantly higher over the past month.

According to a survey from GasBuddy, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Arkansas rose 3.5 cents since April 6, bringing the statewide average to $3.60 per gallon.

Prices have increased sharply in recent weeks, now more than 43 cents higher than mid-March levels and more than 82 cents above where they stood one year ago.

GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan said volatility in global oil markets continues to drive fluctuations at the pump.

“Average gasoline prices surged for many Americans through the first half of last week before easing in some areas after oil prices slipped following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire,” De Haan said. “However, with a breakdown in talks and renewed escalation over the weekend, motorists should prepare for another round of price increases.”

The national average price for gasoline remained unchanged over the past week at $4.07 per gallon.

Diesel prices also continued to rise, increasing more than 4 cents since April 6 to an average of $5.61 per gallon nationwide.

Analysts say ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in oil markets could lead to continued price increases in the coming weeks.
