Fire crews from multiple agencies responded to a wildfire Monday afternoon in the Prattsville area that ultimately burned more than 60 acres before being contained.
According to officials, the Prattsville Fire Department was dispatched just before 3 p.m. on March 30 to the area of Highway 270 West and Dunn Tram for a reported woods fire.
First units on scene deployed Brush Truck 35 and quickly began extinguishing multiple spot fires that were spreading north. Additional assistance arrived from Poyen and Tull, with brush trucks working to contain the fire along the south side of an east-west forestry road.
The Arkansas Forestry Service assisted with aerial and ground support, using two water drops to help knock down the eastern head of the fire while also constructing dozer fire lines. The Sheridan Fire Department staged at the Sheridan Airport to assist with refilling water bombers during the operation.
Officials said the initial fire burned approximately 56 acres, and no structures were ever threatened.
After crews cleared the scene, high winds caused the fire to rekindle and spread across the forestry road. Firefighters returned to the area alongside forestry crews and were able to contain the additional spread, which burned an estimated five more acres.
Authorities credited the quick response and coordinated effort among multiple agencies for preventing further damage.
Grant County, as well as many other Deltaplex area counties, remain under a burn ban, and officials warn that wildfire danger remains high across Arkansas.
