Pine Bluff Downtown Development, Inc. has been awarded a $39,650 T-Mobile Hometown Grant to support the creation of the Blues Junction Experience, a new project aimed at highlighting the Arkansas Delta’s musical heritage.
The project will feature a 20-foot monument, public art installations and interactive digital elements designed to serve as a centerpiece for Pine Bluff’s Delta Rhythm & Bayous Cultural District. Officials say the installation will transform a historic downtown block into a “living museum” that connects visitors to more than a dozen nearby blues heritage sites.
Mayor Vivian Flowers said Pine Bluff was selected from nearly 900 applicants nationwide.
“This investment will help advance the Delta Rhythm & Bayous Cultural District, which will become a major destination for Delta music and culture,” Flowers said.
City and tourism leaders say the project is part of a broader effort to grow Pine Bluff’s cultural and entertainment footprint. The district is also tied to the Delta Rhythm & Bayous Highway, a multi-state tourism corridor that connects Pine Bluff to Indianola, Mississippi, home of the B.B. King Museum.
Michael McCray, public relations and cultural development specialist with the Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission, said the initiative will play a key role in regional tourism.
“Regional revitalization is a key tourism development strategy for our city and our growing cultural, arts and entertainment district,” McCray said.
A public event celebrating the grant will be held Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at the UAPB Incubator on Main Street as part of Catfish Friday Blues & Soul Night. Representatives from Pine Bluff Downtown Development, the Advertising and Promotion Commission and T-Mobile are expected to attend, with interview opportunities available.
The Hometown Grants program, launched in 2021, has funded a number of community projects across Arkansas, including improvements in Clarksville, Osceola, Camden and Sheridan. Pine Bluff is the latest city in the state to receive funding through the initiative.
