Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Promotes Deyonta Jones to Sergeant

Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. has announced the promotion of Deyonta Jones to the rank of sergeant within the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, effective March 16, 2026.

Jones began his career with the department on Aug. 1, 2020, serving as a patrolman in the Uniformed Patrol Division. He graduated from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy on Dec. 11, 2020, and quickly established himself as a dedicated member of the agency.

He was promoted to corporal on April 16, 2023, after demonstrating strong work ethic and leadership potential. In his new role as sergeant, Jones will serve as shift relief sergeant.

During his time with the department, Jones has received multiple Patrolman of the Month honors and was named Patrolman of the Year in 2024. He is recognized within the agency for his leadership, professionalism and ability to support fellow deputies.

Captain Christopher Grider said the promotion reflects both Jones’ past performance and the responsibility he will carry moving forward.

“This promotion is not simply a recognition of past performance, but a reflection of the responsibility we trust you to carry forward,” Grider said. “Your leadership, dedication and professionalism have prepared you well for this role, and we are confident in your continued success.”

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office congratulated Jones on the promotion and expressed confidence in his continued leadership within the department.
