Pine Bluff Police Chief Shawn Davis spoke with the Pine Bluff Small Business Association on Wednesday to outline his vision for the department under his leadership.
Among the key initiatives he discussed was reinstating the department’s traffic division as part of a broader proactive policing strategy.
Davis is also reinstating the Violent Crimes Task Force, which will be headquartered at a new substation located in a former Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services building at 30th Avenue and Ash Street. The task force is expected to resume operations once participating officers complete 40 hours of training.
Residents will soon notice new FLOCK cameras being installed, beginning in city parks. The cameras will provide officers with a 360-degree view of the surrounding area and allow them to access live feeds and recorded footage directly from their patrol vehicles.
The Pine Bluff Police Department has the facilities in place to launch a police academy locally. Representatives from state standards will soon visit to help guide the department through the certification and startup process. Davis also addressed the academy plans during his remarks.
Davis spoke about several other items during the meeting. Those items will be covered by Deltaple News in a second article on Friday.
