All Deltaplex-area school districts are now back in session following last week’s winter storm, including the Pine Bluff School District.

Pine Bluff Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Barbaree joined the Oldies 101.3 Morning Show on Tuesday to discuss when the decision was made to bring students back to the classroom.

Barbaree said the district was able to use contract labor to help clear parking lots at schools across the district.

The Pine Bluff School District has state testing scheduled for the first week of May, but also has days to make up after missing school last week.

Barbaree said the district has built-in days in the calendar that can be used to make up the lost time, but she would like to have those days made up before state testing so students can have additional instructional time.

She noted the calendar includes a fall holiday break in February, and she is suggesting those days be used as make-up days since students were already out of school for a full week.

Barbaree said the district will send out a survey to gather input from faculty on which dates should be used to make up the missed days. She added that a special-called school board meeting will be needed to approve any proposed make-up dates.

Deltaplex News will have more from Dr. Jennifer Barbaree on Wednesday.
