The Arkansas Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld a decision by the Desha County Circuit Court to revoke the probation of a man charged with a crime in another state. In the same ruling, the appeals court said the attorney representing the man could withdraw from the case.
Roscoe Joiner pleaded guilty to second-degree battery on Sept. 21, 2021, and was sentenced to four years’ probation. A motion was filed May 8, 2023, seeking to revoke that probation because Joyner had failed to pay court ordered fines and fees, and had traveled out of state and committed new crimes.
He had been arrested Feb. 14, 2023, in Clinton, Miss., and charged with false identity-fraudulently obtaining goods, three counts unlawful possession of a false driver’s license, three counts of providing false information to law enforcement, identity theft and false statement of identity.
After a hearing in 2024, the court revoked Joyner’s probation and he was sentenced to three years in prison.
A condition of his probation was that he that not leave the state without a written pass from his probation officer and that alone is sufficient to support the revocation of his probation
