Southeast Arkansas College served as the host site for the Arkansas Workforce Development Board Full Board Meeting, welcoming state leaders, workforce officials, education partners and industry representatives for a full day of discussions focused on strengthening Arkansas’s workforce pipelines and aligning education with regional labor needs.
The meeting was held at the SEARK College Welcome Center and opened with welcoming remarks from SEARK President Dr. Tyrone Jackson, who highlighted the college’s workforce-focused programs and its commitment to preparing students for in-demand careers.
SEARK leaders emphasized the college’s workforce development initiatives and strong employer partnerships, noting the institution’s role as a regional hub for training, education and collaboration. Discussions throughout the day underscored the importance of cooperation among higher education institutions, industry and state agencies in supporting economic growth and expanding opportunities for Arkansans.
Dr. John Proctor, SEARK’s director of recruitment, led a campus tour for board members, showcasing facilities and programs in Technical Studies, Health Professions, and Science and Humanities. Department deans provided brief overviews of their offerings and answered questions from board members during the tour.
During breakout sessions, board members received updates on the governor’s workforce strategy, along with administrative and agency reports. Committee-led discussions focused on shaping statewide workforce priorities.
Presentations included updates from workforce agency leadership, economic development partners and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act core program directors representing vocational rehabilitation, adult education, and employment and training programs. Much of the discussion centered on recommendations to improve service delivery and better align education and training with employer needs across the state.
“We are honored that Southeast Arkansas College was selected to host this important statewide meeting,” said Charles King, SEARK’s executive director of development. “Convening workforce leaders on our campus reflects SEARK’s ongoing support of economic vitality by meeting the evolving needs of students and the regional economy throughout Southeast Arkansas and beyond.”
Following a working lunch, the meeting concluded with open discussion, opportunities for public comment and formal action items, reinforcing transparency, collaboration and shared accountability in advancing Arkansas’s workforce goals.
