Investigators say Johnson attempted to flee the scene on foot just moments after the assault and before deputies arrived. During his escape, he encountered Arkansas State Police Trooper Trevaughn Moore, who was conducting a traffic stop nearby and heard the victim calling for help. Johnson continued to run but was apprehended by Moore a short time later.

Jefferson County deputies and investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division arrived shortly thereafter. Detectives interviewed the victim and collected evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Johnson was transported to the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on probable cause for rape and aggravated assault.

The investigation remains active. Authorities say additional details will be released as they become available.
