After nearly an hour and 20 minutes of discussion, the Pine Bluff City Council voted 6–2 against placing Mayor Vivian Flowers’ proposed one-cent sales tax on a future ballot for voters during a special called meeting Monday night.
Council members Steven Mays, Bruce Lockett, Lanette Frazier, LaTisha Brunson, Lloyd Holcomb Jr., and Yvonne Denton voted against the measure. Glen Brown Jr. and William Fells voted in favor.
Following the meeting, Alderman Glen Brown Jr. spoke with Deltaplex News about his decision to support the proposal.
Additionally, Alderman Steven Mays explained his reasons for voting against it.
In other business, the mayor once again tabled an ordinance that would abolish the Urban Renewal Agency and dissolve its Board of Commissioners. The council also voted unanimously to approve the 2026 municipal budget, along with two resolutions amending the 2025 municipal budget related to the Economic and Community Development Department.
