A little more than a month ago, Pine Bluff Mayor Vivian Flowers said during a press conference that she planned to name new Fire and Police chiefs sometime in December.
Now, with the month halfway over and an ordinance to restructure personnel classifications within the police department failing at Monday night’s City Council meeting, questions remain about the timeline for those appointments. Several council members said they voted against the ordinance in part because the department does not currently have a full-time chief in place.
Following the meeting, Deltaplex News asked Mayor Flowers whether she still intends to make the appointments before the end of December.
The mayor responded that she remains committed to naming both a Fire Chief and a Police Chief.
Flowers said she will continue working through the process and provide updates as decisions are finalized.
