Arkansas State Police Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Pine Bluff

A late-night police encounter on Friday ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting, now under investigation by the Arkansas State Police.

According to Pine Bluff Police Department Public Information Specialist John Worthen, the incident began around 10:30 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1800 block of 27th Avenue.

After stopping, three suspects fled from the vehicle on foot towards 28th Avenue. Officers detained two of them, but the third suspect reportedly opened fire on police. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.

The suspect was transported to Jefferson Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

No officers were injured.

Because the incident involved police gunfire, the Arkansas State Police has taken over the investigation, as is standard protocol. Further details will be released when available.
