With Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers choosing not to seek reelection, three candidates are set to compete for the position. One of those candidates is Vance “Lee” Freeman.
Freeman, a 1994 graduate of Rison High School, brings more than 20 years of law enforcement experience to his campaign. He began his career with the Arkansas Department of Corrections before joining the Pine Bluff Police Department in 2002. During his time with Pine Bluff PD, he served in a variety of roles, including graveyard patrol, bike patrol, and ultimately Vice & Narcotics.
For more than 18 years, Freeman has served as a Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and as a member of the Tri-County Drug Task Force, where he worked major federal drug investigations that impacted communities across the region. He has also served on the Pine Bluff SWAT team as a sniper team leader.
Freeman maintains strong professional relationships with Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods and Drew County Sheriff Tim Nichols. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Arkansas Narcotics Officers Association.
