Christen Shelton will soon join the Pine Bluff School District Board as the new representative for Zone 1 after running unopposed in the upcoming election. Shelton, a longtime community advocate and parent in the district, shared her gratitude and outlined her goals in a message to Pine Bluff residents.
Shelton was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, but her ties to Pine Bluff began when she attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she earned a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies in 2008. She and her husband now raise their children in the district, a connection she says makes her new role deeply meaningful.
Shelton has been actively involved in local schools for years, serving on PTO organizations at both James Matthews Elementary School and Pine Bluff High School. Through that involvement, she said she has seen firsthand the challenges facing the district as well as the potential of its students and staff.
In her message, Shelton emphasized her commitment to improving attendance, increasing graduation rates, and fostering a positive working environment for educators.
“As I step into this new role, I pledge to lead with compassion, honesty, fairness, and accountability,” she said. “I will advocate for our educators, ensure that parents’ voices are heard, and work tirelessly to provide every student with the resources and support they deserve.”
Shelton also underscored that she views her role not as a political position, but as a community responsibility.
“I am not here as a politician—I am here as a parent, a neighbor, and a proud member of this community who believes wholeheartedly that Pine Bluff’s best days are ahead,” she said.
Shelton said she looks forward to working with fellow board members, district leadership, and the community to build a strong and supportive educational environment for all students.

To the Pine Bluff Community,
It is with great honor and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Board Member for Zone 1 in the Pine Bluff School District after the upcoming election. I am humbled to have run unopposed and to now have the opportunity to serve the students, families, educators, and community members who make Pine Bluff such a special place.
My name is Christen Shelton, and my passion for education and community service runs deep. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, but Pine Bluff became my home when I attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where I earned my B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies in 2008. Since then, Pine Bluff has truly become my heart. My husband and I are proud to raise our children in this district, which makes my work and commitment as a board member deeply personal.
