Today, we continue our conversation with Cleveland County School District Superintendent Davy King, who provides details about the district’s proposed 6-mill increase. The request aims to fund construction of a new gymnasium and multi-purpose center, along with improvements to the elementary school.
In the first part of the interview, King explained why the district is seeking the increase. In this segment, he discusses the $100 homestead tax credit that will offset part of the cost and outlines what taxpayers can expect to pay if the proposal is approved.
King also shared details about the new gym, including its square footage and seating capacity.
King said he’s been asked why the district is requesting so many seats, and he explained the reason behind it.
If the millage passes, it would allow Rison to potentially host district and regional basketball tournaments—an opportunity that could generate additional revenue for the town. King discussed how that process would work.
