Seven members of the Jefferson County Quorum Court met Monday night in a special called meeting to address 20 agenda items, approving all of them with unanimous votes.
The participating justices included Reginald Adams, Alfred Carroll, Melanie Dumas, Brenda Gaddy, Reginald Johnson, Rick Victorino, and Margarette Williams. Seventeen of the 20 measures were on their third reading, meaning they will now move to County Judge Gerald Robinson for his signature.
Following the meeting, Robinson spoke with Deltaplex News, expressing concern that several of the measures passed may be unconstitutional.
Robinson said the justices have acknowledged in legal filings that no procedural ordinance has actually been passed, despite claiming for several months that one was already in place. He added that they are now attempting to approve such an ordinance before the case goes to court.
Robinson added that he plans to veto several of the items approved by the seven justices during the meeting.
