The Pine Bluff Police Department is once again asking for the public’s help as detectives continue to investigate the unsolved 2017 homicide of Chauncy Long.
Long was shot around 9:46 p.m. on October 22, 2017, in the 6000 block of West Short 3rd Street. Officers were called to Jefferson Regional Medical Center after Long was brought to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his upper back. He was later pronounced dead.
A second victim, a juvenile female, was also shot in the chest but survived her injuries.
According to witness statements, Long and the girl were leaving an apartment when suspects in an unknown vehicle began firing. The shooters fled the area immediately after the gunfire and have not been identified.
Today, October 20, 2025, would have been Long’s 26th birthday.
“His life was taken far too soon, and his family continues to seek closure,” said John Worthen, public information specialist for the Pine Bluff Police Department. “Detectives with the Major Crimes Division are actively investigating this case and following all available leads.”
