The American Red Cross of Greater Arkansas, in partnership with Pine Bluff Fire & Emergency Services and the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Arkansas, will host a free smoke alarm installation event for Pine Bluff residents on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The event, part of the Red Cross Sound the Alarm home fire safety initiative, will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will gather at the Pine Bluff Fire Department, located at 200 E. 8th Ave., before heading out into local neighborhoods to install smoke alarms and share fire safety information.
The Sound the Alarm campaign is a nationwide effort to help families prepare for home fires by installing free smoke alarms and creating escape plans. Since its launch in October 2014, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has been credited with saving more than 2,200 lives across the United States.
